Advancing Critical Care Through Data Science

Critical care generates enormous data, and most of it goes unused at the bedside. RICCC at Rush University System for Health builds the methods, tools, and evidence to change that through pragmatic trials embedded in real ICU workflows, and interdisciplinary team science across medicine, respiratory therapy, and informatics. We turn ICU data into practice-changing insights for critically ill patients.
01.
We use machine learning and NLP on ICU data to build tools clinicians can actually use: readmission risk scores, deterioration alerts, and AI-assisted screening.
02.
Rush is a founding site in the CLIF Consortium, an open-source ICU data standard now spanning 12 institutions, 62 hospitals, and 808,000+ patients.
03.
Pragmatic trials run inside real ICU workflows, paired with causal inference methods to figure out which treatments actually help which patients.
04.
We work with emergency medicine, respiratory therapy, biostatistics, and informatics at Rush. The problems we care about don't fit in one discipline.
